การกลับมาอีกครั้งของ SG ตัวแรก

Gibson Custom Shop ถือได้ว่าเป็นจุดสูงสุดของงานฝีมือ คุณภาพ และความเป็นเลิศทางด้านโทนเสียง โดยเครื่องดนตรีแต่ละชิ้นเป็นการเฉลิมฉลองถึงมรดกตกทอดของ Gibson ผ่านความเที่ยงตรง ความเที่ยงแท้ และความใส่ใจในรายละเอียด

ในปี 1961 ถือเป็นการเปลี่ยนผ่านครั้งใหญ่สำหรับ Gibson Les Paul™ ที่น่าจดจำที่สุดคือการออกแบบลำตัวกีต้าร์ที่ทำจากไม้มะฮอกกานีทั้งหมด  โดยมีรอยเว้า (cutaway) แบบ 2 เขา ซึ่งต่อมาได้เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็นรุ่น SG™ โดย Gibson Custom Shop ได้รังสรรค์และนำกลับมาซึ่ง Les Paul SG Customs รุ่นแรก พร้อมด้วยการตกแต่งในสไตล์คัสตอม ฮาร์ดแวร์สีทอง และคันโยก Sideways Vibrola™ ซึ่งเป็นระบบไวบราโต้แบบ side-pull action ที่คล้ายกับที่พบในรุ่นกีต้าร์ในช่วงต้นทศวรรษ 1960 นอกจากนี้ยังมีคอที่ทำจากไม้มะฮอกกานี ซึ่งมีรูปทรงคอที่บางและมีการเข้าขอบ ซึ่งตรงตามคุณลักษณะในปี 1961, ลูกบิดกีต้าร์ Grover®, สะพานสาย ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic™, ปิ๊กอัพ Custombucker จำนวน 3 ตัว, พอท CTS® vintage-taper และคาปาซิเตอร์ Black Beauty
